Emsi Software + Tall Emu = gratis säkerhetspaket?

Emsi Software, som utvecklar a-squared (antimalware), och Tall Emu, som utvecklar Online Armor (brandvägg/HIPS) har inlett ett samarbete:

Cooperation instead of competition: Emsi Software in Austria and Tall Emu in Australia have announced a new and very close technology partnership. Both companies produce security software and have such a similar orientation and philosophy in this area that cooperation offers only advantages to both sides. The first result of this is that a-squared Free is now immediately available for downloading bundled together with the Online Armor Free firewall.

The first sign of this new cooperation has already been set. Both companies now bundle their software and offer them as a package. This means that a-squared Free is now provided together with Online Armor Free. Every user downloading the free Australian firewall is now also offered an Austrian Virus scanner with Spyware protection – and vice-versa.

Första resultatet är således att a-squared Free och Online Armor Free distribueras ”ihop”, d.v.s. med ett gemensamt installationsprogram (signerat av Emsi Software GmbH, om någon undrade…)

Intressantare är dock vad som händer i nästa steg. Det verkar inte helt orimligt att de skulle utveckla ett komplett säkerhetspaket (ett, inte två program, som det nu är). Tall Emu får dock se till att ta fram versioner för x64.

Ett sådant paket skulle i första hand konkurrera med Comodos gratis säkerhetspaket (och bli en svår konkurrent), men på sikt kanske Emsi/Tall Emu (och Comodo) kommer att konkurrera med betalalternativen från Symantec, McAfee, F-Secure m.fl. Dock har såväl Emsi som Tall Emu betalversioner av sina program… Kommer de, och de andra, att ta efter Comodos modell, att erbjuda programmet, utan begränsningar, helt gratis, men erbjuda tjänster till betalande kunder?
