Inställningarna för kodning med Opus i 1.14 beta 3.

Utöver dataflöde (6–512 kbps) kan man välja variabelt, konstant eller begränsat variabelt (constrained VBR) dataflöde, samt om kodningen skall optimeras för tal eller musik. Opus är nämligen en kombination av två kodare, en (CELT) för musik, och en (SILK) för tal.

Vid ett lyssningstest (64 kbps) som genomfördes våren 2011, då Opus/CELT-kodaren var väldigt ny och otrimmad, vann Opus. Tvåa blev Apples HE-AAC-kodare, som har optimerats under flera år. Mer om resultatet: https://people.xiph....eg/opus/ha2011/

Opus låter förstås långt ifrån perfekt vid 64 kbps (VBR), men det räcker att höra några sekunder för att konstatera att det låter mycket bättre (särskilt vid höga frekvenser) än Vorbis (använde senaste aoTuV) vid (ungefär) samma dataflöde. Och optimering av Opus-kodaren pågår för fullt.

Mest betydande förändringen är väl att foobar2000 nu har stöd för fler AAC-kodare än Nero. Neros kodare är förvisso inte dålig, och har länge varit fritt tillgänglig (om än inte öppen). Utvecklingen av Neros kodare har dock avstannat, och den är därför inte längre i klass med Apples (ursprungligen Dolbys) och Fraunhofers kodare. Nytt i 1.3.3 är att man kan använda Apples kodare om iTunes är installerat, och Fraunhofers kodare, om man hämtar den (FDK) eller installerar Winamp (Winamp/FhG).

 

Fraunhofer FDK AAC är den öppna AAC-kodare som ingår i Android 4.1+. Kodaren får hämtas separat, t.ex. från http://www.dbpoweram...central-m4a.htm Efter installation kopieras fdkaac.exe till \foobar2000\encoders.
