Hmmmmmmmmm.

Comodo Dragon Protects Online Privacy

Jersey City, NJ, February 11, 2010 - Comodo, a leader in cybersecurity, announces its new Internet browser, Comodo Dragon. Like Google Chrome, Comodo Dragon is constructed on the open-source Chromium Project browser. Dragon's enhancements increase security and protect user privacy.

Comodo Dragon offers a new feature for Internet users. Websites all have digital certificates attesting to their identities, but some certificates offer more security than others. If Comodo Dragon encounters a Domain-only certificate, it warns the user that the website may not be reliable. Domain-only certificates are available to any webmaster at low cost and with no verification, providing no guarantee of authentication.

With Comodo Dragon, information about online exploration stays as much as possible within the user's PC. Comodo Dragon does not transmit information about a browsing session to a remote server. Such a transmission exposes information about where the user has been on the Internet. For example, other Chromium Project-based browsers refer software errors to remote servers. When it finds software errors, Comodo Dragon responds with error messages found on the PC browser, keeping information about the user's Internet travels private.

Comodo Dragon eliminates a potential threat: that attackers could find vulnerabilities by looking for the software errors that the browser was compiling to report to a remote server. Comodo Dragon neither tracks nor reports errors

Comodo Dragon protects Internet users from inadvertently exposing information about themselves, enhancing online security. For more information, visit http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/browser.php

Kommando: -safe-plugins -trusted-plugins=nppdf32.dll

Comodo unveils Chromium-based browser

16 February 2010

Internet security software and whitelisting firm Comodo has unveiled a secure browser designed to compete with Google's Chrome.

The Comodo Dragon browser is based on Chromium, the same open source architecture as Googles Chrome, but also features links to several services that are specific to Comodo.

The browser highlights websites that serve domain-only certificates. These certificates prove only that the website being served to the browser belongs to the person that controls that domain name. In practice, domain-only certificates offer little real assurance that a site isnt operating a scam or serving malicious software. If Comodo Dragon encounters a domain-only certificate, it warns the user that the website may not be reliable.

Comodo was behind the Extended Validation Certificate movement, which created standards for issuing digital certificates based on more rigorous vetting of the applicants. Although many browsers now highlight websites that offer EV certificates, few alert users to sites serving domain-only certificates which have gone through minimal vetting procedures. The familiar padlock icon seen in many browsers during SSL sessions may fool many users into thinking that a site is secure, even when it isnt.

Comodo is also promoting the enhanced privacy in the Dragon browser. The company explained that the software does not transmit information about a browsing session to a remote server. Other Chromium Project-based browsers refer software errors to remote servers, Comodo said. When it finds software errors, Comodo Dragon responds with error messages found on the PC browser, keeping information about the user's internet travels private.

Chromium is an open source browser architecture that was built with security features from the ground up. Integrated sandboxing helps to keep the host operating system safe from any exploits designed to compromise the rendering engine, for example, while contributors have also implemented multiple security enhancements to the code in recent weeks. These include enforcing encrypted sessions, and clickjacking protection. Comodo will also presumably be able to benefit from the Google-operated vulnerability payment scheme, in which researchers are paid for exposing security flaws in the code.

The Comodo Dragon browser runs on Windows, but is not available for the Mac.

Comodo Dragon is now being distributed by two channels, a General Availability GA channel and a beta testing channel.

The GA version is available from the products area of our www.comodo.com website. The beta testing versions will be available from the beta corner section of the forums.

Each version will continue to get automatic updates for that channel which means for example, if you always want to have the latest beta version you should install a beta version and install the beta updates. A beta version will always be released at the same time as a GA version with the same codebase.

4.1.1.2, både stabil och beta, drogs tillbaka.

In the newly released version we had a defect on startup due to extensions, which sometimes appears after update procedures. The rollback was applied, and the old version temporarily restored

We will release a new version very soon

If you have downloaded version 4.1.1.2 and are experiencing this problem, please download version 4.0.1.6 (http://download.comodo.com/dragon/DragonSetup.exe), and install it

We apologize for this inconvenience.
